The Kiki Kogelnik Foundation is a non-profit organization that was founded in New York in 1996. It is dedicated to promoting the knowledge and understanding of the artistic legacy of Kiki Kogelnik. The foundation maintains and preserves Kiki Kogelnik’s artworks and archives and holds the intellectual property rights for them. In its ambition to sustain and expand the artist’s legacy, the foundation provides exhibition and curatorial support, and provides access for academic research and scholarly discourse.
It has offices in New York and Vienna and its holdings are housed in offices and art storage facilities in both locations.
The Exhibition and Collections Coordinator for the Kiki Kogelnik Foundation is responsible for supporting the Foundation’s Director in all aspects of the Foundation's exhibition planning and execution, and ensuring the maintenance of all its holdings of Kogelnik works and of other artists.
In more detail, the Exhibition and Collections Coordinator is expected to:
• Coordinate all aspects of exhibition production, working closely with the Director (based in New York) and the Archivist (based in Vienna).
• Liaise with galleries, institutions, conservators, framers and others as it relates to the works of Kiki Kogelnik or other artists as required.
• Have a working knowledge of the life and work of Kiki Kogelnik and the time in which she worked.
• Maintain and update the Foundation’s database (Artsystem5).
• Manage all inventory related records for the Foundation (including shipment tracking spreadsheets, condition notes and reports, export and import licenses, and all related documentation), ensuring accuracy of captions, notes, forms, lists, and other relevant information added by external registrars.
• Ensure that all consignments with galleries are current and accurate.
• Coordinate and execute all aspects of shipments incoming and outgoing from Vienna and New York as well as within the cities; including securing quotes, liaising with shippers, arranging shipments, ensuring cost effective and efficient solutions.
• Define packing and installation needs and make recommendations while liaising with shippers and storage facilities.
• Coordinate and execute condition reporting of artworks, with art handler assistance where necessary.
• Maintain all offsite and onsite storage for Vienna location, including ensuring best practices in artwork storage and tracking, coordinating inventory reports, and conducting storage audits, as needed. Co-ordinate with New York office and storage.
• Assist with packing/unpacking of artworks as needed.
• Perform research and creative problem-solving related to exhibition production and object needs. Be on site during installation and deinstallation periods for production or installation assistance as needed.
The ideal candidate possesses:
• Past experience: a minimum of two years preferred with various aspects of exhibition production and collection management.
• Excellent writing and communication skills in English and German. The Foundation is primarily an English language organization.
• An educational and vocational background in art history, and/or museum studies, minimally at Bachelor’s level, or other related fields.
• Strong project management skills: highly organized and detailed with the ability to multi-task various projects and timelines including trouble-shooting and with the capacity for creative problem-solving.
• Familiarity with museum standards of care, display, documentation, and storage as well as good art handling experience.
• Proficiency with Mac, database systems, Microsoft Office (especially Word and Excel), Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop and InDesign).
• Experience working collaboratively, and comfort working within a small team.
• Willingness to make a minimum of a two-year commitment to the position.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) based in the Kiki Kogelnik Foundation’s office in Vienna.
There may be some work obligations during nights and weekends. This is primarily an in-office position; international travel may be required, including couriering art works.
Starting date: June/July 2024
Starting salary: € 3,000 gross per month
